Months into the COVID-19 epidemic, the US is still experiencing the world’s largest contagion. As American deaths continue to rise, the medical infrastructure has been pushed to the breaking point in many regions of the country. As other nations are seeing the effect of COVID-19 subside, the United States is experiencing a rise in cases. America’s underfunded public health infrastructure, fragmented healthcare, patchwork of insurance plans, and meager social safety net have all served to undermine efforts to control the virus.
